WHART had the assignment in 2016 to redesign the artist-room in Castellum theatre Alphen aan den Rijn. We used vintage leather chairs and a sixties table in the tv corner.
Everything vintage, except the corten steel Wall lamps. I designed a sort of skyfy face and Ton did the technical work together with a welder. Also the two tables are WHART handmade from teak.
The very large teak table (6 mtrs.) we found in a antiques farm. The VIP 2000 fauteuils from Marcel Wanders were already there . Behind the table the Cartoon Cast with the artist year-book and possibilies for artists to draw on a canvas for the Wall.

"Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter". Installation for Keramix 2015 Zoetermeer. (7 t/m 29 november, za/zo 13-17)
Pottery made by ceramist Anke van der Kwaak. The Japanese signs stand for the four seasons. Ton and I made four new whitewax boxes with the seasons in fretwork covered by Japanese ricepaper. The whitewash paint is actually oil, lineseedoil, which is environmental friendly. The boxes are made from ecoboard "grasswood".The tablelegs are recycled.
By order of Stichting Orion, a health facility for people with a disability in Rotterdam, ART2B2 designed a cabinets wall, intended for the delivery shop. Ton has the supervision of the rebuilding of the office and the workshops for daytime activities. The body of the cabinets is made of chipwood. Ecoboard (grasswood) is used for the doors. Through the white paint the beautiful structure of the grasswood is visible. Nice to see that WHART's eco investigations lead to use in practice!

The table legs are stainless steel, designed to get a fragile image.
Daylight shining through the fretwork leaves.
The cube in the middle is a lamp.
The ecoboard top we polished with Epifanes for boats, very strong and shining. The table legs are treated with varnish for steel.
Notice the sign of the bamboo branches!
Which you can see here, daylight shining through.
The Dragon and the Koi.
At 11th of April I visited the Cherry Blossom Festival in Amstelveen. (See pictures at Blog Beeld). From that moment the story of the carp and the dragon came to me. The myth tells that the carp stands for strengh, wisdom, perseverance and luck.
"At the source of a river, behind a huge waterfall, there lived a big black dragon. This dragon terrorized the whole world. Nobody could beat the dragon. One day a big carp swam up against the river and was capable to reach the top of the waterfall.
When the carp arrived there, it changed into a white dragon. And the white dragon succeeded to defeat the black dragon after a strong fight. From that moment the carp became a holy fish for as well Chinese as Japanese people!"

Asian aesthetics fascinates us. Japanese culture, design, gardens, film and food. Attention for details, the refinement.
"La Peruche et La Sirene", famous work from French painter Henry Matisse. When he was too old to be able to paint, he made a huge work on paper, a garden from paper leaves, a bird and a female figure.
Because I made a study from his work during my Art Academy time and because there is an exhibition coming in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, I honoured him with this light object.
This light object is a prototype, a study for a series of these lamps. It looks like the Lotek from Benno Premsela, a Duth designer. But finally it has the looks of a Chinese lantern. And we are inspired by Chinese culture since a long time. The Tao, Tai Chi, it has no secrets for us! In our filmcollection there are beautiful Chinese artistic lessons about wisdom and the human mind. Asian aesthetics fascinates us, Japanese expression in film, culture, design and food!
My design and idea, but I am hopeless without the great construction skills Ton has: fretwork, black lace, coloured hand made paper and an electric installation!
When there is no light on or sun shining, the lantern looks neutral.
Four sides, the colours of Matisse'work: blue, pink, green and orange.

At the moment we are busy with our second design: a grasswood Cubinet. Grasswood is our name for Ecoboard, environmental friendly board with a number of good qualities.

The cubes always fit exactly in all directions. In proportions of cm.: 15/30 15/45 30/30 30/45-40 deep.

Our Cubinets can be used as a storage for books, lp's, or a collection of treasures. But it is also just a monument, architectural.
Fretwork leaves in some of the cubes filter the light.
